What the rating assumes
Over 5,000 lbs
For trailers over 5,000 lbs – use a weight-distributing hitch with sway control. A weight-carrying hitch is limited to 5,000 lbs. with a 600-lb. tongue weight; tongue weights over 600 lbs. need a weight-distributing hitch and sway control.
Every rating assumes a 150-lb driver and passenger and no other cargo. Add people, gear or accessories and the trailer you can tow goes down by the same amount.
